HAVANA (Regina del Sol, AIDH) – Members of organizations opposed to the
government have designated September 18 as The Day of the Cuban Oppositor.
The date commemorates the first anniversary of the death of Jesús
Yanes Pelletier, an opposition leader.
The following statement was issued after a meeting of the dissidents in the
headquarters of the National Coordination of Prisoners and Ex-prisoners: "Bearing
in mind that during the years of struggle to achieve true freedom for the Cuban
people, Yanes Pelletier maintained at all times a position of dignity, courage
and honor, which have served as an example to all those opposed to the regime
which suppresses us."
