HAVANA, September While the Cuban Fisheries Ministry touts a program "for the processing of fish meant to result in multiple benefits to the population and the economy," Cubans havent had fresh fish in two years.
In recent years, only very small quantities of frozen fish have been available at the government stores and that has been limited to people with medically prescribed diets.
For four decades the distribution of fish has been rationed and insufficient. On only a few occasions has it been freely available.
Nevertheless, fisheries officials say they are increasing the size of the fishing fleet and improving fishing techniques and other resources to ultimately better supply the fish markets.
