HAVANA - An increasing number of Japanese tourists are venturing to Cuba to sample the island's sun, sand and, now, a little local Japanese flavor.
''In August, we had so many Japanese guests, they outnumbered the Spaniards, who are usually our number one clients,'' said Carmen Casals, an executive at Havana's landmark Hotel Nacional.
Tokyo-to-Havana charter flights ferried in hundreds of Japanese tourists in July and August. And Havana's first Japanese restaurant, Sakura, opened its doors Saturday, in what was taken as a sign of things to come. |
