Water tank may collapse waiting for removal

HAVANA, November 13 (Pedro Nasco Alvarez, UPECI) – A decrepit water tank may collapse while several government agencies decide whose responsibility it is to take it down.

The old metal tank sits unused atop its tower in the Eléctrico district of the Arroyo Naranjo municipality of Havana. Neighbors say it has already shed several chunks of metal, but that no one has been hurt so far.

An official with the Municipal Popular Power (local government) said that they don’t have the necessary equipment to take the tank down. A Water and Sewers official who inspected the tank said his department "is not involved with the case." When the tank was in use, it was part of the water supply system.

A resident of the Eléctrico district wondered out loud "Are we going to have someone die before they decide to solve the problem?"
