Rationed bread contaminated

CAMAGÜEY, November 1 (Omar Reyes Basulto, CIPC) - Residents of Vertientes, in Camagüey province, complain that the 80-gram bread buns sold to them under the government rationing system are handled under unsanitary conditions.

The buns are transported in open baskets in horse-drawn carts, which results, according to residents, in the bread being contaminated with road dust and horse excrement.

"This procedure for handling food exposes people to contagious diseases and parasites," said one Vertientes resident who did not want to be identified.

He also pointed out that the bread sold in the dollar stores is handled in a very different manner.
