HAVANA, October 30 (Ohalis Víctore, Cuba Voz) The trial for "disrespect"
against dissident Iosvany Aguilar Camejo was scheduled for this morning in the
Municipal Tribunal of Santiago de las Vegas.
Aguilar has been in jail since May 24 after he was arrested along with three
other dissidents by State Security. The four intended to deliver a letter to the
National Directorate of Prisons of the Interior Ministry, demanding respect for
the human rights of prisoners.
Agents of the political police said Aguilar would be tried for violations of
the code of conduct in the prison where he was held.
Several relatives managed to make it into the courtroom in Santiago de las
Vegas, even though it was only yesterday that they learned of the trial.
They tried to have the trial postponed because they hadnt been able to
find a lawyer.
Other dissidents were expelled from the courtroom by State Security agents
to forestall protests during the trial.
"The only person who may be present in the hearing is the accuseds
mother," said the political police.
The prosecution was going to ask for one year in prison for Aguilar.
Aguilar practices civil, non-violent disobedience as a means of opposing the
present Cuban government.
