CUBANET ... CUBANEWS

CNN -- Castro's News Network

NewsMax.com. Monday, March 27, 2000 8:55 AM EST

Ever since Uncle Ted Turner joined Fidel Castro for a hunting trip in Cuba, Ted has been a big booster for the Cuban dictator.

In recent years, Ted showed his love for the Cuban dictator by opening the first U.S. news bureau in Havana. CNN promised its news would be objective.

Take a look at CNN's lead news story today with a report by its correspondent Lucia Newman.

Newman's report is nothing more than a propaganda piece for Castro.

The CNN segment is about three times as long as a typical news report -- and goes into great detail about Castro's speech this weekend. No criticism. No balance. Just propaganda.

Castro, CNN reveals, believes Cubans in Miami have a plan to kill young Elian Gonzalez to prevent his return to Cuba. Cuban-Americans will do anything to stop Elian's return, Castro says.

Still we are waiting for a major American news service like CNN to report that neither young Elian nor his adult father have any legal rights in Cuba.

We are also waiting for CNN and Miss Newman to report that Elian, when he returns to Cuba, will be treated like any other young boy. At age 7 he stops getting a milk ration. At age 9, he is taken away from his family to work in the sugar cane fields.

In other words, Elian will be a full-fledged slave on Castro's plantation.

Such reports would be a good beginning. They could easily be followed by others: Castro's persecutiion and jailing of religious and political dissidents -- not to mention journalists.

We're waiting, CNN!
