Panafrican News Agency. Africa News Online. March 21, 2000

Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) - Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque arrived in South Africa on Tuesday, for a two-day visit at the invitation of South African Foreign Minister Nkosasana Dlamini-Zuma.

Roque and his delegation will hold discussions with President Thabo Mbeki, former President Nelson Mandela and Trade and Industry Minister Alec Erwin.

Discussions will centre on the strengthening of bilateral relations and focus on expanding economic ties between the two states.

An exchange of views on global issues as well as the forthcoming G-77 Summit, which will be held in Havana in April, will also be discussed.

Dlamini-Zuma and Roque will sign a Declaration of Intent on Co-operation between the Department of Foreign Affairs of South Africa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

On Wednesday, the Premier of Gauteng, Mbazima Shilowa, will host Roque at a working breakfast with the South African business community to further explore business opportunities between South Africa and Cuba.
