AIDS Patients Get Substandard Care

SANTA CLARA, March 14 (Isabel Rey, Cuba Press) - The sanatorium for AIDS patients in this city does not provide the care required by those suffering from the disease.

The 156 patients in the facility suffer the lack of medications common to other medical facilities in Cuba. Their diet consists basically of rice, chick peas, eggs and mortadella.

When patients take a turn for the worse, they are transferred to a pavillion set up for them at the "Arnaldo Milián Castro" hospital, where conditions are even worse.

Human rights activists, with the help of some of the workers of the sanatorium, have been providing some food to the patients.
