HAVANA, June 28 (Héctor Maseda, Grupo Decoro) Police carried out a raid, firing shots in the air and indiscriminately beating passersby, apparently to arrest two youths, in Guanajay, in the outskirts of Havana.
The incident occured on June 24 at the bridge where many people gather to await any available means of transportation to the western province of Pinar del Río. According to one of those present that day, Ana Caballero Meytín, eight police officers arrived in a truck with Havana
plates and went into the crowd, firing over their heads and beating people. Amid the general confusion caused by their actions, the agents aprehended two young men, beat them, handcuffed them and took them away in the truck.
The officer who appeared to be in charge responded to the concern shown by some bystanders saying "We are the law." Then he turned around, hopped on the truck and left.
