Dissidents Threatened With "Vagrancy Law"

HAVANA, June 19 (María del Carmen Carro, UPECI) - State Security agents threatened to apply the law against vagrancy or "social dangerousness" against two dissidents.

The threat was made against Galman Rodríguez Acosta and Nelson Vázquez Obregón when they were being held at the police station at Zapata and C Streets, in the Vedado district of Havana.

According to Rodríguez, the president of the National Union of the Opposition Party, State Security agents warned them that they could be accused of public disorder and later told them to get a job, because stricter measures will soon be applied to dissidents.

In general, dissidents in Cuba are fired from their jobs when their status becomes known, and it is hard for them to find employment because they are considered "untrustworthy personnel."
