MIAMI -- A Washington-based public interest group has filed a second lawsuit alleging that the federal government violated the rights of protesters the day agents raided the Little Havana home of Elián González's relatives.
Judicial Watch already had sued federal officials for $100 million on behalf of one protester and Donato Dalrymple, the man found hiding in a closet with the boy.
This latest lawsuit, which also demands $100 million in damages, was filed on behalf of 20 protesters. The suit says agents tear-gassed, tackled and pointed guns at them.
The lawsuit is filed against Attorney General Janet Reno, Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder, Immigration and Naturalization Service Commissioner Doris Meissner. It accuses them of violating protesters' rights to freedom of expression, freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures, and
freedom from use of excessive force without due process.
The group has sued the Clinton administration more than 30 times.
