HAVANA, June 8 (Lucas Garve, CPI) An increase in exploration permits indicates a renewed interest in gold prospecting in Cuba.
Three companies, Oro Castellanos, Geominera Camagüey and Geominera Oriente were awarded concessions by the Ministry of Basic Industry encompassing 3,818 square miles.
Oro Castellanos extracted 1,195 pounds of gold approximately U.S. $5,500,000 at current prices last year from its deposits in the area of Santa Lucía, in Pinar del Río province, western Cuba.
