Sr. Jeanne O'Laughlin's statement on the ruling.
National Review. 6/01/00 12:35 p.m.
Sr. Jeanne O'Laughlin, Barry University president, issued the following statement after the 11 a.m. decision today announced by the federal appeals court:
"My heart goes out to the family, who has spent such a long time in a state of limbo. The decision at least brings closure to this chapter in the family's tragedy.
"It is my sincere hope that this child will continue to experience love from all sides of the family, and that, in time, relationships will be healed. Hopefully this will enable the extended family to also re-enter into his life.
"I hope the human family can learn from this experience on how to better care for children who are caught in similar circumstances. The best we can do at this point is to abide by the court decision and move forward in prayer and continue to seek peace and reconciliation in our community."
