One-time California Governor Jerry Brown is taking off this week for Cuba.
Brown, now mayor of the People's Republic of Oakland, is going to visit with Oakland sister city Santiago.
Castro's revolution began in Santiago, and this week marks its 47th anniversary.
Jerry didn't want to miss out on the festivities.
Brown told the San Francisco Chronicle the reason for the trip: "I'm going to Cuba in furtherance of a City Council resolution that calls for person-to-person diplomacy.
"I think it's important to create a bridge of understanding and highlight the similarities between the two cities. It's ridiculous that we are carrying on the remnants of U.S. Cold War policy," the mayor said.
No meeting is planned yet with Fidel Castro.
Rest assured if a meeting does take place Jerry will not raise issues about Castro's nightmarish regime - one the State Dept. has cited for its repression against blacks, journalists, gays, labor unions, children and others.
