HAVANA, July 18 (Jesús Zúñiga) Authorities revoked licenses for more than 100 self-employed workers in Placetas, Villa Clara province, leaving approximately 3,000 people out of work, according to Daniel González Ruiz, of the Self-employed Workers Association.
The workers operated small workshops specializing in aluminum work. "The high salaries of the workers and their efficiency, the variety and quality of their products, as well as the number of people the self-employed provided work for are the real causes of the revocation," said González.
González added: "Anytime a private business, it doesnt matter that its properly authorized, grows to the point that the government thinks it is threatening its control of the economy, its going to get cleaned out. Thats the way of totalitarian systems."
