Police Enjoy More Perks Than Physicians

HAVANA, July 17 (Carmelo Díaz, APSIC) - In Cuba, it much more advantageous to be a policeman than to be a physician, a teacher, an engineer or a scientist.

This is a career that doesn't take long years of study, doesn't require special skills and has relegated all others to the background.

The course of study is short and doesn't demand great effort. The salaries after graduation depend on the level of effectiveness in repressing the population; but in any case will be higher than that of a physician who saves lives, or of a scientist who discovers a new cure for disease. There's more; teachers, physicians, engineers and other professionals have to work for 30 years to be elegible for retirement at 50% of their salary. Police retire after 25 years of service with 80% of their salary, and the possibility of working in another field.

Working as a policeman in Cuba is good business.
