CIEGO DE AVILA, July 17 (Juan Carlos González, FAPDH) - Department of State Security officer Eddy Pérez Peña was sentenced to 10 years in jail last May for taking bribes.
Pérez Peña was the officer in charge of investigating citizens who applied to work for the Interior Ministry from Camagüey province.
In that capacity, he would sell credentials of political trustworthiness and 9th grade completion to the interested parties. He would charge 150 pesos (7 dollars) for the 9th grade certificates, for example.
Pérez is serving his sentence in a cubicle in the Department, and continues receiving his salary.
