CIEGO DE AVILA, July 14 (Juan Carlos González Leyva, FAPDH) – For more than a week now a meningitis outbreak has been afecting residents of this region in central Cuba. The disease has been primarily affecting children.

Numerous cases have been admitted at the Provincial Hospital in Ciego de Ávila. Officials of the Ministry of Public Health have opened a ward in the Teaching Hospital in Morón for victims of the outbreak.

Recently there was a hepatitis outbreak in the region and there are still people with the disease.
