HAVANA, July 13 (Alida Viso Bello) - An official from the Department of State Security arrested and interrogated the director of an independent library in Santiago de las Vegas, Havana, yesterday.
Rolando Monteagudo Pérez was arrested at home and taken to the local police station where the officer interrogated him concerning an art exhibit planned for last Saturday, July 8.
The exhibit was to have consisted of 10 paintings by Raimundo García Parras, a Cuban painter who now lives in the U.S. The paintings had been confiscated by the Interior Ministry two days before the show.
"During the interrogatory they told me that the paintings would probably be returned if the case didn't go to trial," said Monteagudo.
The paintings belong to his wife, Daisy Pozo García, who is also the artist's niece. E7
