Late Rains Come To Save The Transición Cooperative

JUTINICÚ, July 11 (Antonio Alonso, President, ANAIC) – After a long period of drought, the rains came to the Transición independent cooperative. The lack of rain had damaged the rice crop, which will have to be replanted.

Corn fared better; it had been planted with the first rains in May and is now growing tall. With this crop, the co-op hopes to guarantee its own animal feed.

Tuber crops such as yams and yuca also profited from the late rains. The rainfall is still not sufficient; rivers have not come up to normal flows but there is now enough water to dam up for the animals.
