HAVANA, July 12 (Regina del Sol) Eusebio Ramírez García fell through a hole in the social security net; after working for 30 years for the Cuban workers federation, no less, he finds himself disabled and without a pension.
After 30 years working for the provincial directorate of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (the federation of all labor unions), Ramírez, 50, suffered a heart attack in 1994 and a stroke in 1997, which together left him an invalid. Since then, he and his wife have been trying to secure
a pension or disability benefits for him, to no avail.
Officials in the Sugar Ministry, for which Ramírez also worked, had promised to assign him a house, but when he became unable to work the promise was forgotten.
