HAVANA, July 7 (Ricardo González Alfonso) Officials from the Ministry of the Interior confiscated 10 paintings by Reymundo García Parra that were to be shown at the "Grito de Baire" independent library in Santiago de las Vegas, city of Havana.
The director of the library, Rolando Monteagudo Pérez, said that two agents from the Technical Department of Investigations, two police regulars and two witnesses from the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution presented a search warrant at 9:30 p.m. on July 6 that stipulated "Works
of art and illicit possesion of objects."
After a half hour, they left with the ten paintings which were to be exhibited on Saturday at the library. The paintings belong to Deysi Pozo García, the painters niece and wife of Monteagudo. The independent library is located at the couples home in Santiago de las Vegas.
At a question from Ms. Pozo, one of the agents said: "Dont worry, your paintings will be returned to you."
The painter, Reymundo García Parra, 63, has received numerous awards in Cuba for his work. He now lives in the United States. His work has been exhibited in Cuba, France, Spain, Italy, Venezuela, and the United States.
