Three handicapped sentenced to a year in jail

CIEGO DE AVILA, December 18 (Juan Carlos González Leyva, FRACI) – Three handicapped men, two of them blind, were sentenced to one year in jail for disrespect after they were arrested for selling imitation jewelry on a street corner.

Reyniel Chapman, Miltón López, and Antonio Betancourt are in the Valle Grande prison, in Havana. They were arrested at the corner of Águila and Dragones streets where they were trying to make a living by selling costume jewelry. The three, along with others who were also rounded up, were fined 1,500 pesos and forbidden to continue selling on the streets.

Chapman, López, and Betancourt protested the measures, and were subsequently tried for disrespect and disobedience.
