HAVANA, December 17 (Amarilis Cortina, Cuba-Verdad) Caridad Padrón
Blanco, 62, underwent an emergency appendectomy five days after doctors
misdiagnosed her condition and sent her home.
Padrón initially went to the municipal hospital near her home in
Guane, a small town in westernmost Cuba, with acute belly pain and a fever.
Doctors there sent her home with some penicillin to take. Five days later, her
relatives took her to the "Clínico Quirúrgico" hospital
in Havana, where doctors performed an emergency appendectomy.
Padróns son, Manuel, said that one of the doctors that saw her
at the Havana hospital said: "Who was the idiot who sent her home with
penicillin?"
