New York, Dec. 13 -- Looking for the ultimate gift for that cigar aficionado
in your life? National Geographic Magazine could have the answer.
National Geographic Expeditions, a subsidiary of the magazine, is offering
travelers an opportunity to discover Cuba during an 11-day excursion to the
island in spring 2001.
"No one goes to Cuba without sensing something special,'' said David
Alan Harvey, the National Geographic photographer who with Elizabeth Newhouse,
one of the magazine's editors, created a 252-page portrait of Cuba in
transition, titled "Cuba.''
During the 11-day trip to Cuba, lectures on the architecture of historic
Havana are planned as well as a visit to the home and historically important
sites frequented by American novelist Ernest Hemingway.
The trip will also feature an introduction to Cuban music and dance.
The trip will be led by either Harvey or Newhouse and travel, accommodations
and the necessary licenses required for U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba will be
arranged through National Geographic Expeditions.
