Transportation crisis worsens in Havana

HAVANA, December 11 (Juan Carlos Linares, Cuba Voz) – The transportation crisis affecting Havana is worsening due to the scarcity of fuel, according to people familiar with the transportation sector.

Employees of the Urban Bus Company say the bus depots in Havana are operating with fewer than 50 percent of their vehicles. They say the situation became desperate with the further cuts in fuel allocations ten days ago.

In spite of the recents accord reached with Venezuela, whereby that country is going to supply Cuba with approximately 53,000 barrels a day, there is a substantial number of industries shut down for lack of fuel.
