Legal order rescinded; farmers dispossesed

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, December 4 (Víctor M. Domínguez, Lux Info Press) – A farmer was evicted from land granted him in usufruct by a legal order last year, and the six thousand yucca plants he had under cultivation were lost.

Jovanis Fajardo Arévalo was granted use of the land by resolution 113/99 of the Ministry of Agriculture, and had been working the parcel with two relatives. Recently, the director of Cubatabaco in the municipality verbally rescinded the ministry’s resolution and evicted Fajardo. The fields have been lying fallow since then.
