HAVANA, November 29 (Silvio Herrera, AFPCP) – A special sale on women’s sneakers provoked a melee that prompted store administrators to suspend all sales at the "La Época" dollar store in central Havana on November 23.

The fight started as a clerk brought out a box of the sneakers, which had been marked down from 7.95 to 4.95 dollars, to place on the shelves. The box never made it to the shelf; the crowd practically tore the shoes from the clerk’s hands and started fighting over them.

"It was incredible; I went to buy shoes for my children and came out all beat up. If there were enough products available at reasonable prices, these things would not happen," said shopper Mariela Vila.
