HAVANA, April 19 (Moraima Pires, Grupo Decoro) - The only means of transportation available to residents of towns around Santa Cruz del Norte, in the province of Havana, is a tractor-trailer that plies the route Valle Elena-Santa Cruz and that has been out of service for 25 days. This means
hundreds of families have to walk up to 18 miles (30 kilometers) when they have business in the county seat.
"The truck that covered the route has been in service for many years and so it continuosly breaks down, it works for a couple of weeks and it breaks down
again, and so on," said José Manuel Ríos Ramos.
Residents of the towns of Valle Elena, Yagrumas, Camarones, and Ceiba Mocha must walk to Santa Cruz for matters like health care, legal or official affairs, or to be able to start a trip to anywhere else.
The residents have complained to the local delegate of the Popular Power (municipal government), but to no avail. The delegate just says "I already made my report, but I don't have an answer from the upper levels of government."
