PINAR DEL RÍO, February 4 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo Carmona,
UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - Residents of Pinar del Río province bought the
bar of bath soap provided by the rationing quota in January and they are
complaining that it irritates the skin and it leaves behind a disagreeable smell
and a greasy residue.
Authorities addressed the complaints by assuring consumers that the soap met
standards similar to those of Nácar brand soap, sold years ago.
A government-radio announcer admitted that the soap didn't look very
attractive, saying it has an "undefined" color and that it does leave
behind a greasy residue. The announcer then assured the audience that the case
is under investigation and that an answer will be forthcoming, a statement
residents here interpret to mean "that's the end of this story," as
one local wag put it.
