Independent journalist says firing was reprisal

HAVANA, Cuba, September 25 (Roberto Santana Rodríguez / www.cubanet.org) - Independent journalist Julio Aleaga Pesant, who was recently fired from his job charges the firing was in reprisal for an article he wrote September 8 denouncing a near epidemic of dengue fever in Cuba.

Aleaga, 46, says officers of the Department of State Security met with his supervisor in the public health pavilion of Expo Cuba and told him of that he is an independent journalist. The supervisor, Leonardo Hernández, then dismissed him from his job in publicity and promotions of upcoming events.
