Physician who died in Venezuela buried
HAVANA, Cuba - May 25 (José Antonio
Fornaris, Cuba-Verdad / www.cubanet.org)
- A 47-year-old physician who had been sent
to Venezuela to participate in the government's
Barrio Adentro program died there after
ingesting wood alcohol. He was buried Sunday
in his native San Antonio de las Vegas,
south of Havana.
According to reports, Félix Figueredo
ingested the poisonous alcohol in a party
organized in honor of his first anniversary
working in Venezuela. He was to have returned
to Cuba on vacation shortly.
Figueredo was hospitalized for several
days in a coma. His sister had to travel
to Venezuela to authorize he be removed
from life support.
Figueredo was chief of intensive therapy
in the San José de las Lajas hospital
in Havana province before going to Venezuela.
Figueredo leaves a wife and son, who is
himself studying medicine.
