Iran in nuclear issue

Jan 31, 2005.
The Union of Cuban Muslims on Monday expressed
support for Tehran's pursuit of its indisputable
right to develop and use nuclear energy
for peaceful purposes.
Releasing a statement in Havana, the union
described as "respectable" Iran's
reaction to moves by superpowers to block
Tehran from exploiting nuclear energy.
"As some Iranian officials have put
it and notwithstanding threats and moves
by the United States, efforts to avoid war-mongering
strategies from taking shape should be avoided,"
said the statement.
It further said that Iran's resumption
of nuclear research was within the framework
of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
(NPT), and added that the US ballyhoo in
this regard was "unacceptable."
On January 9 Iran announced it was resuming
nuclear research, which it suspended voluntarily
in Nov 2004 as a means of building confidence
on its nuclear programs.
Washington's opposition vis-a-vis Tehran's
nuclear programs runs counter to international
law which states that each country is sovereign
within its territory and decides its destiny,"
pointed out the statement.
"As Muslims, we believe that Iran's
transparent nuclear programs exposes the
falsehood of accusations of world countries
that Tehran is likely to use its nuclear
energy for military purposes." The
union also condemned all measures or actions
taken by states or international organizations
banning Iran from acquiring nuclear energy
for peaceful ends.
