Journalist released
HAVANA, Cuba - August 10 (Roberto Santana
Rodríguez / www.cubanet.org) - Journalist
Santiago Dubouchet was released from prison
August 5 after serving a one year sentence
imposed for "resistance and disobedience."
Dubouchet, who was last held at the Quivicán
prison, said he had serious health concerns
that were not addressed properly by prison
authorities.
"... medical attention in Cuban prisons
is precarious. For my headaches they gave
me medicine that came close to provoking
a heart arrhythmia. It's called Haloperidol,
and is usually given to people suffering
from psychiatric conditions," said
Dubouchet.
He said a CAT scan later revealed he had
a blood clot in or near the brain. After
the scan, he said, he was transferred to
the prison in Melena del Sur, and later
to Quivicán, form which he was released.
Dubouchet said he will continue working
as an independent journalist.
