Dissident denied material to rebuild after
Hurricane Dennis
CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, September 21 (Alejandro

- Because he's a member of the dissident
Liberal Party of Cuba, Jorge Toledo Figueroa
has been denied the right to buy building
material to replace his house, destroyed
by Hurricane Dennis.
"For you, there's no material,"
government official Nemo Morfa, in charge
of the distribution, told Toledo.
Upon learning that building material would
be on sale to victims of Hurricane Dennis,
Toledo asked Morfa what he had to do to
obtain wood and other supplies. He said
Morfa replied that his case had already
been studied and he did not qualify since
no government opponents would be allowed
to make purchases.
After the hurricane, vice-president Carlos
Lage had declared: "The right to build
will only be given to those who possess
revolutionary merit."
A tree fell on Toledo's home, reducing
it to a pile of rubble.
Hurricane Dennis was a category 4 storm
when it hit Cuba in early July.
