Five who tried to flee Cuba released after 52 days

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, September 1 (Guillermo Fariñas, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Five men from Santa Clara who were caught trying to flee the country have been released after being held in custody for 52 days.

"We were taken from the Aguadores jail on the afternoon of August 25 and taken to the headquarters of State Security, where our personal possessions were returned," said Luis Enrique Junquera García.

Resides Junquera, those released were Juan Carlos Alpízar Rodas, Aleixis Sotolongo Díaz, Didier Arencibia Pérez and Orlando Rodríguez Zalazar, all members of the Liberal Party of Cuba.

Under an agreement with the United States, those caught trying to flee the country cannot be punished.
