Dissidents' children and wives harassed
CAIBARIÉN, Cuba - October 10 (María
del a Caridad Noa, Villa Blanca Press /
www.cubanet.org) - The wives and children
of at least two dissidents who are in prison
have been harassed and threatened by paramilitary
mobs under the direction of government officials
in Las Tunas, eastern Cuba.
Marlene González, the wife of Jorge
Luis García Tanquero, sentenced to
20 years in April, 2003, said she had been
threatened by the mob and that her neighbors
have been warned not to let their children
play with her daughter Melisa, 9. She said
her neighbors were told she is a mercenary
in the employ of the U. S. government who
seeks to destabilize the Cuban people.
Yamilet Llanes, wife of José Luis
García Paneque, said she had also
been threatened and that her neighbors forbid
their children from visiting her home under
pressure from authorities.
