Commercial buildings collapse in Caibarién

CAIBARIÉN, Cuba - October 10 (Alexander Francisco García Mujica, Villa Blanca Press / www.cubanet.org) - Several buildings housing food stores in Caibarién have collapsed due to neglect and the stores have been relocated, making consumers go longer distances to secure their food allotments.

The roof of the "La Piñera" store in Comercio Avenue collapsed four months ago. The roof of the "El Volcán" on 19th Avenue is propped up with construction lumber. The "La Playa" and "La Frontera" stores on 14th Street have been in ruins for nearly five years now.

Consumers complain that often they can't get even the goods allotted to them by the ration books because of overcrowding in the stores that remain open.
