Librarian beaten outside of home of independent journalist

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, October 3 (Vicente Pérez Varela, Jagua Press / www.cubanet.org) - Independent librarian Pablo González Villa was beaten last week during a protest outside the home of independent journalist Alejandro Tur Valladares, director of Jagua Press.

González Villa was hit when he waded through a group of 10 people and shouted "Long live human rights" to show his support to Tur Valladares.

The incident occurred September 23, one day after three members of the Communist Party of Cuba visited Tur Valladares and told him he could not hold a meeting of dissidents in his home as he had planned for the following day.

The trio from the party returned September 23 with other supporters.
