Residents complain water is contaminated

SANTA CLARA, Cuba - May 31 (Karel Castillo, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Residents of the José Martí district in Santa Clara complain that the water coming through the municipal water system pipes lately has been contaminated.

"The water is no good even for cooking," said Lester Leiva, a local resident. "It smells like swamp water; it's totally repugnant."

Residents get water service every three of four days, on average, like every other district in the city system.

"When we get water, we have to store it in any available tank, but this stuff cannot even be used for cleaning," said Diana Moré, another concerned resident.
