Rotting produce sold in the wake of hurricane Dennis

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba - July 20 (Vicente Pérez Varela, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - A day after hurricane Dennis swept through here, government stores offered for sale produce that consumers complained was in a state of decomposition.

Many blamed the rotten produce on the repeated blackouts which preceded the hurricane. After the hurricane caused a total collapse of the electrical system, consumers say, the government put the produce in the stores.

The products offered, ground beef, hamburger meat, chicken and pork, smelled rancid, consumers said.
