Man arrested for shouting "Down with Fidel" after a power outage

SANTA CLARA, Cuba - July 8 (Guillermo Fariñas, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Police detained José Manuel Barreiro Rouco for rushing into the street shouting "Down with Fidel" because of an unscheduled power blackout.

According to Bernardo Arévalo Padrón, director of Línea Sur Press, the incident occurred shortly alter midnight on Monday. He quoted Barreiro Rouco as saying, "Fidel Castro is a liar because he promised there would be no blackouts during the summer."

Several members of the National Revolutionary Police put Barreiro Rouco in a patrol car. He was taken to the State Security Police headquarters where he was interrogated.

Barreiro Rouco was fined 30 pesos and released in the afternoon with a warning that he risked a four-year prison term if he again insulted the president.
