Government food store manager fired for stealing

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba - July 12 (Vicente Pérez Varela, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Humberto Hernández González, manager of a government food store, has been charged with stealing from the establishment.

Government inspectors made a surprise inventory of the store last week and discovered that 1,025 pounds of rice, 360 pounds of sugar, 80 pounds of beans and 40 pounds of cooking oil were missing. One inspector said the amount of missing rice could feed 200 people for a month.

Hernández González was fired from his job as manager of La Bayamesa store, but it was not known if he suffered any other penalty.
