Cuban teachers give students notebooks

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, January 10 (Javier Machado, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Some middle school teachers in Santa Clara gave students a nine notebooks at the beginning of January, since education authorities have provided them with few materials with which to take notes.

Students said they had only received two notebooks so far this school year, and at some point, 50 sheets of paper to "make do" until the notebooks became available.

Students also complained that the notebooks are of very poor quality; their paper is so flimsy that it does not allow for erasures.

Better quality notebooks are available for purchase at the hard currency stores.
