Cuba hopes for agreement
on youth cooperation with Malaysia
Bernama,
Malaysia, February 28, 2005.
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (bernama) -- Cuba
hoped to sign an agreement for cooperation
on youth programmes during the Cuba-Malaysia
Joint Commission meeting here at the end
of March.
The First Secretary of the Cuban Union
of Communist Youth (UJC) Julio Martinez
said they could collaborate by exchanging
information and experience on the training
of youth leaders.
The two countries could also promote their
history and culture to their people to foster
better understanding, he told Bernama in
an interview.
The first joint commission meeting was
held in Havana in 2002.
Martinez, a member of the Central Committee
of the Communist Party of Cuba, and his
delegation left Malaysia on Saturday after
a three-day visit in conjunction with Cuba-Malaysia's
30th anniversary of diplomatic ties this
year.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Azalina
Othman Said visited Cuba last month.
The Cubans also briefed Malaysian leaders
on the 16th World Festival of Youth and
Students (WFYS) to be held in Venezuela
from Aug 7 to 15 this year, and hoped that
they would take part in it.
Martinez said Cuba, which hosted the festival
in 1997, played an important role in the
WFYS which brings together youths to exchange
constructive ideas on many global issues
of war and peace.
