Marihuana confiscated in Havana provincial
town
HAVANA, Cuba, February 14 (José
Antonio Fornaris, Cuba Verdad / www.cubanet.org)
- Police confiscated marihuana from two
modestly-sized plantings in the same week
in the municipality of San José de
las Lajas, Havana province.
The plantings, one consisting of 99 plants,
and the other of 16, were in government
lands, and were surrounded by overgrown
vegetation.
Police detained as suspects one 70-year-old
man and his three sons. In his home they
found 191 seeds and several bags containing
dry marihuana leaves.
The 70-year-old, whose name has not been
given, died a few days after his arrest
after suffering what was listed as a heart
attack.
A man whose name was given as Abel García
was found murdered in the same area January
26. Local residents speculate the two incidents
are related.
