Government sends water by train to drought-stricken area

HAVANA, Cuba - April 22 (Reinaldo Cosano Alén, Lux Info Pres / www.cubanet.org) - Government officials have assigned a train to deliver water to several municipalities in Holguín province that have been suffering from an extended drought for months.

The train consists of an ancient locomotive and eight cars with a capacity for about 13,000 gallons each. It attempts to service the municipalities of Calixto García, Cacocún, Urbano Noris, and Holguín.

Townspeople, however, complain about the unreliability of the train's arrival. They point out the locomotive breaks down frequently due primarily to its age, and to the low priority the train is given in the use of the rails.
