Young laborers poorly trained, according
to complaints
HAVANA, Cuba, April 8 (Reinaldo Cosano

- According to widespread complaints, young
laborers are poorly trained and equipped
to perform in their intended occupations
by the appropriate authorities, in spite
of a multiplicity of rules and regulations
to that effect.
The most salient complaints are directed
at work centers that don't properly address
the completion of youths' training with
practical activities related to their intended
occupations, resulting in the young workers
encountering problems in being accepted
in vocational courses at the same centers.
Another widespread complaint centers on
the poor training on hygiene and safety
measures related to work, and on poor motivation
toward cultural and professional improvement.
These problems, coupled to poor opportunities
for advancement and low salaries, result
in high rates of labor desertion.
In a national workshop recently, Labor
Minister Alfredo Morales stressed the importance
of work and study for youth, lest "later
they become missing links and their lack
of motivation, frustrations and bad habits
become obstacles for their joining the labor
force".
