Havana glassworks dismantled; 900 workers displaced

HAVANA, Cuba, October 25 (Víctor Manuel Domínguez, Lux Info Press / www.cubanet.org) - Government authorities have decreed that the "Orlando Cuéllar" glassworks be dismantled and the facility be turned into warehouse space for the Ministry of Public Health, displacing 900 workers.

As the order is carried out, only 125 workers remain at the plant that, according to independent labor leaders, enjoyed great prestige for the quality of its roducts.

The displaced workers have been sent home with 60% of their pay for three months, at the end of which they will have to find new jobs.
